Built on Mysore sandalwood, softened with cardamom and left to settle into skin like woodsmoke in a shawl. It reads warmer on a wrist than it ever does on paper.

Our Story

Why we started making perfume in Surat.

[FOUNDER: the one specific sensory memory this started from — where, when, what it actually smelled like. First person, one or two sentences, and concrete enough that nobody else could have written it. This is the single highest-value sentence on the site and it cannot be invented.]

What we can tell you plainly is the shape of it. There are four: Woody, Floral, Oriental and Fresh. Each is an eau de parfum at 100 ml, blended in India, and the studio is in Mota Varachha, Surat.

[FOUNDER: who is actually blending these, and where. A name and a role, or the name of the house you work with. If it is you at a bench, say that — a small honest answer outperforms a vague grand one.]

We are not open. There is no shop, no stockist, and no date we are willing to print. When there is something to buy, the people on the list hear first and they hear once.

The Ritual

How it is worn.

Eau de parfum carries more oil than an eau de toilette. That changes how you put it on.

What is Hiya perfume?
Hiya is the name printed on our cartons and the short form of House of Hiya. We are a perfume house in Surat, Gujarat, with four eaux de parfum: Woody, Floral, Oriental and Fresh. Each one is 100 ml and blended in India.
Are you the same as the House of Hiya clothing brand?
No, and we get asked this constantly. The clothing label is a Mumbai designer-wear brand selling sarees and lehengas at houseofhiya.com. We have no connection to them beyond the name. We make perfume, we are at houseofhiya.in, and we are in Surat.
Where are you based?
Mota Varachha, Surat, Gujarat. Everything is blended in India.
What fragrances do you make?
Four. Woody is Mysore sandalwood, cedar and vetiver. Floral is mogra, damask rose and orris. Oriental is oudh, saffron and amber. Fresh is khus, neroli and cedar. Each has a page of its own with the full note pyramid and how it wears.
What size are the bottles?
100 ml, 3.4 fl oz, eau de parfum, one size for all four. They are meant for skin and for cloth, and they last noticeably longer on cloth.
Can I buy one yet?
